How to Label and Organize Your Decants Like a Pro
You've built up a solid collection of fragrance decants. Now comes the part that separates the casual sampler from the serious enthusiast: organization. A well-labeled, well-organized decant collection saves time, prevents mix-ups, and makes the whole experience more enjoyable.
Here's how to do it right.
Why Labeling Matters
Unlabeled bottles are a recipe for confusion. Fragrances can look identical in the bottle — the only way to know what you're reaching for is a clear, consistent label. Good labeling also helps you track when you decanted something and how long it has been in that container.
What to Include on Every Label
At minimum, every decant label should include:
- Fragrance name — full name, no abbreviations
- House/brand — especially important when you have multiple from the same house
- Size — 3ml, 5ml, 10ml, etc.
- Date decanted — useful for tracking when the sample was prepared
Optional but useful: concentration (EDP, EDT, parfum), batch number, or a personal rating.
Choosing the Right Label
Choose a label material and size that fits the bottle surface without covering too much of the fill area. The most important things are legibility, consistent placement, and an adhesive that stays put during normal handling.
